Position/Project Overview:
Project Solutions Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector (CI) to provide construction inspection and contract administration support for the reconstruction of the La Mina Trail in El Yunque National Forest, Puerto Rico, ensuring that all construction work complies with contract requirements, safety standards, specifications, and quality expectations. The role involves frequent on-site inspection of trail, bridge, retaining wall, and related infrastructure work in a remote and rugged outdoor environment
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct daily field inspections of construction activities to ensure work is performed in accordance with contract requirements, plans, specifications, and quality standards
- Monitor contractor performance and construction progress, documenting observations and promptly identifying any deficiencies or non-compliant work
- Inspect materials, equipment, and workmanship to verify compliance with project requirements and applicable construction standards
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily inspection reports, field logs, photographs, and construction records
- Coordinate with the Contracting Officer (CO), Contracting Officer Representative (COR), contractors, and project stakeholders to communicate inspection results and project status updates
- Monitor compliance with safety requirements, environmental protection measures, erosion-control practices, and applicable regulations
- Review project submittals, schedules, payroll and labor compliance records, and other contract-related documentation as required
- Verify completed work for progress tracking and payment purposes, supporting overall contract administration and project delivery
- Perform field inspections throughout the rugged La Mina Trail project area, including trail reconstruction, bridge construction, retaining walls, concrete work, and erosion-control improvements
Required Education, Knowledge and Skills
Education/Certification:
- No specific degree or educational qualification is required for this position.
Experience:
- Experience performing construction inspection and quality assurance activities on civil, transportation, trail, bridge, or similar infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated ability to monitor contractor performance and verify compliance with construction plans, specifications, and contract requirements
- Experience inspecting trail reconstruction, trail bridge construction, retaining walls, and related site development work
- Working knowledge of concrete construction and concrete testing procedures, including evaluating workmanship and material compliance
- Experience reviewing erosion and sediment control measures and monitoring environmental compliance on active construction sites
- Ability to interpret civil and architectural drawings, specifications, and construction submittals to support inspection activities
- Experience inspecting reinforcement layouts, aggregate placement, compaction activities, and other site construction operations
- Proven ability to prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain project documentation, and communicate findings to project stakeholders
- Comfortable performing field inspections in remote, rugged outdoor environments and traversing steep terrain while carrying inspection equipment
Key Attributes & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of construction inspection principles, quality assurance practices, and contract compliance requirements
- Ability to interpret civil and architectural drawings, specifications, plans, and other technical construction documents
- Working knowledge of trail and bridge construction, retaining walls, concrete construction, and concrete testing practices
- Understanding of erosion and sediment control measures, reinforcement placement, aggregate installation, and compaction activities
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify deficiencies, document findings, and ensure corrective actions are addressed
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare inspection reports and coordinate effectively with project stakeholders
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills to maintain accurate project documentation, inspection logs, and contract files
- Ability to work independently in remote, rugged outdoor environments and safely traverse steep terrain while performing field inspections
